If you are visiting, returning to Australia or importing a non-commercial vessel, the operator / operators of the yacht are responsible for complying with Australia's Biosecurity Act 2015 (section 193) and Biosecurity Regulation 2016.
Biosecurity measures ensure a low level of risk of harmful pests and diseases entering and establishing in Australia and enables the appropriate management of pests and diseases that pose a risk to the Australian environment and agricultural industries.
The operator of the vessel arriving from an international destination, or vessel which has come in contact with international vessels, must:
- Give notice of impending arrival 90 days to no less than 12 hours before arrival into a first point in Australian territory.
- Enter Australia through a designated first point of entry (FPOE) for non-commercial vessels.
- Be granted pratique before disembarkation or unloading of goods.
- Have an inspection of the vessel by a biosecurity officer noting vessels with timber components have additional requirements, whether sailed to Australia or imported as cargo.
- Manage any identified biosecurity risk.
Amended Pre-Arrival Reporting obligations apply from 27 February 2026. Verbal Pre-Arrival Reporting is not permitted after 27 February 2026. All Pre-Arrival Reports must be submitted in writing, electronically using the Department's designated Non-Commercial Vessel Web Portal.

- Changes in circumstances during a visit or voyage to Australian territory, particularly to the human health of travellers, must be reported to a biosecurity officer as soon as practicable.
- A failure to report accurately or comply with a requirement under the Australia's Biosecurity Act 2015 may result in penalties, including infringement notices, civil penalties, or criminal prosecutions.
Privacy Notice
'Personal information' means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. Personal information that is collected under or in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2015 (Biosecurity Act) is also 'protected information' under the Biosecurity Act.
'Sensitive information' is a type of personal information and includes any information or opinion about an individual's racial or ethnic origin; political opinions; religious beliefs or affiliations; philosophical beliefs; sexual orientation or practices; membership of a political association, professional or trade association or union; or criminal record. It also includes health or genetic information about an individual and biometric information or templates.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) collects 'protected information' including personal and sensitive information in relation to this form under the Biosecurity Act for the purposes of assessing and managing the potential biosecurity risks on vessels coming to Australia and related purposes. If you fail to provide some or all of the relevant personal information requested in this form the Department may be unable to assess the biosecurity risk associated with the vessel. Information collected by the Department will only be used or disclosed as authorised under the Biosecurity Act.
The Department may disclose personal information collected in this form to relevant State, Territory and Australian Government agencies responsible for administering biosecurity; and human health laws. It will not usually be disclosed overseas by the Department.
